MAY 2017 – Will Klatte was quoted on JD Supra, a leading distributor of legal news and analysis, in an article exploring how law firms are innovating to increase efficiency. He discussed KBY Law’s adaptability and willingness to look beyond billable hours to improve the services provided to clients. The article can be viewed here.
MARCH 2017 – Los Angeles Superior Court. Obtained Summary Judgment on behalf of large hospital management corporation as to all seven causes of action asserted against it. The complaint asserted race discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims in downtown Los Angeles, which is one of the most liberal jury pools in the country. Prevailing party costs of approximately $15,000 were obtained.
NOVEMBER 2016 – U.S. District Court, Central District (Los Angeles). KBY obtained a pre-trial dismissal of all claims against its client, a large hospital management corporation, brought by a female physician. The complaint asserted gender discrimination and retaliation claims. No payment or other remuneration was provided for the dismissal with prejudice.
NOVEMBER 2016 – KBY Law attorneys recently attended the California Minority Counsel Program’s Annual Business Conference in San Francisco. Joe Naddour, who serves on CMCP’s Ambassador’s Council, spoke at a panel entitled “Is Work Life Balance a Myth? Finding the Right Position and the Right State of Mind.” KBY Law is proud to support CMCP’s mission to promote diversity in the legal profession.
DECEMBER 2015 – Will Klatte contributed to an article about Kilby et al. v. CVS Pharmacy Inc., where the California Supreme Court will respond to questions certified to the court by the Ninth Circuit and interpret California state requirements for employers to provide suitable seating.
KBY Law is proud to announce that the California Minority Counsel Program recently appointed KBY Law attorney Joe Naddour to serve on its Ambassador’s Council. Joe is one of 15 young attorneys throughout the state to receive this honor. As a member of the Ambassador’s Council, Joe will assist CMCP to broaden its outreach to lawyers and law firms on issues of diversity and supporting efforts of inclusion.
On October 22 and 23, 2015, five KBY Law attorneys attended the 26th annual California Minority Counsel Program’s Business Conference in downtown Los Angeles. CMCP promotes diversity in the legal profession and connects diverse attorneys across the profession. The conference was a great success. KBY Law attorneys met with industry leaders who discussed a wide range of issues, including diversity in the legal profession and emerging issues in the law.
SEPTEMBER 2015 – Will Klatte served as a Panel Speaker at Professional Liability Underwriting Society (“PLUS”) Southern California Chapter Program & Debate on “Substance Abuse & Marijuana in the Workplace.” He discussed the interaction between state and federal employment laws and laws authorizing medical marijuana use. He noted that five states (Nevada, Arizona, Minnesota, New York, and Delaware) expressly provide some level of workplace protection for medical marijuana users. He cautioned that even in states where accommodation is not required, employers may be forced to defend whether their actions constituted a legitimate enforcement of drugfree workplace policies or unlawful discrimination based on the underlying medical condition.
SEPTEMBER 2015 – The Los Angeles Daily Journal profiled General Counsel, Joni Lee Gaudes of FCTI, Inc. FCTI is a KBY client that provides ATM processing services for over 6,500 ATMs in all 50 states. As General Counsel, Ms. Gaudes oversees all legal aspects of FCTI. While recognizing other law firms in different practice areas, Ms. Gaudes gave a special “shout-out” to KBY Law as her go-to firm for California labor and employment issues.
